Dill Gin Rickey

Spring is in the air and nothing goes with air like a fresh cocktail. Scientific fact…look it up.

Right now I’m sipping on a little concoction that’s been reminding me of why this is the best time of year, and why it’s okay to have a day cocktail every now and again.

Here’s all you’ll need to enjoy your spring afternoon:

  • 2 oz Dill Infused Gin
  • 1/2 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • Pinch of Salt (the finer the better, to ensure thorough mixing)

Combine all the above over ice and give it a quick shake, top with soda water (you can substitute tonic, lemon-lime soda, or celery soda.  All of which are amazing!)

Use your straw or a spoon to gently (like a baby bunny hop) stir the mixture with the intent to move the contents on the bottom to the top of the drink, or at least to the middle. If you skip this step you’ll just taste your pop then get a blast of cocktail to finish… a BLAST of cocktail…

As for the making of the dill gin:

Take one small bunch (about 1/2 oz) of dill and slip it right into a 750 mL of your favorite gin (I recommend Plymouth because the juniper isn’t as intense as other gins. It’s also very reasonably priced for a quality product.) and then just let those two sit and get to know each other for a couple of days. Strain out the dill with a fine strainer and you’re loaded up with your own dill gin.

Mix, drink, repeat.

As always, thanks for reading.

Bottoms up,

H.S. Hemingway
